As an employee, I didn’t have time to absorb the shock of losing my job. Rather, I was emersed in job searching activity. Certainly, I could have managed similar exercises on my own but chances are, I would have been dragged down by pessimism to a degree. The outplacement service provided me an avenue of focus with activities, schedules and deadlines. I felt as though I was still working and productive, which allowed me to concentrate on the objective of finding a job rather than dwell on the fact that I no longer had one. In the end, I found an opportunity through my existing network but the service was instrumental in helping me to maintain my confidence throughout the process which, as an HR professional, you know is crucial in the job search effort.

As for the benefit to the company, I view outplacement services as an investment. The service allows employees to part with dignity and respect and the liklihood of re-acquiring their talents in the future increases exponentially. In addition, it sends a clear message to the remaining workforce that the company respects their service and is committed (financially) to assiting them in securing their future. This can go a long way in maintaining positive morale during difficult times of restructuring.

this sounds amazing!!!! So far, only cd with tales for the kids were playing while traveling. I really haven’t heard before about audio books – great concept. I suppose I can find them at big book-stores?
